Description Habitat: Dry or moist soils in pastures, grasslands, open woodlands, waste areas and disturbed sites.
Plant: Shrub or small rounded tree up to 15 feet tall with multiple trunks; stems with spines, short to 1-3/16 inches long, at leaf nodes becoming whitish with age.
Leaves: Bi-pinnate compound leaves, 1 to 3 inches long overall with 2 to 6 pairs of pinnae, each with 10 to 18 pairs of gray-green linear-oblong leaflets each 1/8 to 1/4 inch long; deciduous.
Inflorescence: Bright, very fragrant yellow flowers in ball-shape about 3/8-inch across, arising on peduncles 3/8 to 1-5/8 inches long from leaf axils.
Bloom Period: March and April, or later following rains in drought years.
