Description Habitat: Hardwood forests and swamps, residential areas, roadsides, etc.; generally growing on bark of hardwood trees.
Body (thallus): Highly branched shrubby tufts adhering closely to the substrate or hanging; 3/4 to 2+ inches long, usually bright yellow to orange with a crust-like appearance; smooth or slightly wrinkled surface texture often covered with a powdery or granular layer.
Fruit (apothecia): Flat, disk-shaped, often brightly colored orange or green.
