Description | Habitat: Openings in wooded areas, dry or rocky soils. Plant: Upright perennial 12 to 32 inches tall, upper portions much-branched. Leaves: Alternate, ovate to ovate-oblong or -lanceolate to elliptic or nearly round, 2 to 5 inches long; margins crenate-serrate to sharply serrate; lower leaves with stalks and becoming weak and crumbly with age; upper leaves much smaller and extending down stem as narrow wings. Inflorescence: Composite flower heads on multiple short stalks, each about 7/8-inch across with 8 to 15 white rays and yellow disk florets. Bloom Period: September to November.
