Description Habitat: Wet soils in ditches, swales, marsh edges and low places.
Plant: Erect, slender grass-like perennial from rhizomes; culms up to 28 inches tall, slender, ribbed and have leafy bases.
Leaves: Spreading to erect with narrowly linear blades, less than 1/8-inch wide.
Inflorescence: Solitary, head-like grouping of white spikelets that are ovoid with pointed tips; these surrounded by 3 to 6 flaring to recurved bracts that are white from the base, becoming green toward the tips and unequal in length, the longest 6 inches or more long.
Bloom Period: Late spring and summer.
