Description Habitat: All types of soils throughout the state, but especially in dry, calcareous soils along roadsides in Central Texas.
Plant: Bushy perennial 1 to 4 feet tall.
Leaves: Leaves 1 to 6 inches long, deeply pinnately-divided into 5 to 13 linear lobes; lobes entire or further divided into 3.
Inflorescence: Composite flower heads with 4 to 12 drooping rays, yellow or yellow and red-brown; central green column protrudes 1/2 to 2 inches above the petals with many brown disk florets.
Bloom Period: April to July.
