Description Habitat: Gravelly, calcareous soils in abandoned pastures, hillsides, gravel bars.
Plant: Erect, branched annual 1 to 2-1/2 feet tall.
Leaves: Narrow, 1/4-inch wide lanceolate leaves 1 to 2 inches long covered with minute hairs.
Inflorescence: Light to dark pink or purple flower heads 5/8-inch across, 7 to 12 disk florets with 5 deep lobes; no ray flowers; narrow phyllaries.
Blooming Period: May to September.
