Description Habitat: Sandy, gravely or clayey soils in meadows, prairies, fields and roadsides.
Plant: Erect annual with spreading stems 4 to 20 inches tall.
Leaves: Opposite, linear-lanceolate to oblanceolate flat blades 3/8 to 1-3/8 inches long and 1/8-inch wide or less; pointed tips and smooth surfaces.
Inflorescence: Open arrays (cymes) of a few to many small white flowers; each flower with 5 flaring, obovate petals from 0.3 to 0.6 inches long with rounded, notched tips; 5 green, glandular-hairy sepals are about 1/8-inch long, lanceolate with pointed tips and 3 veins.
Bloom Period: Spring and summer.
