Description Habitat: Sandy soils in prairies and open areas.
Plant: Perennial with decumbent or ascending stems 12 to 20 inches tall, densely covered with silky hairs.
Leaves: Numerous leaves pinnately-compound, 1.2 to 2 inches long with 7 to 13 silky-hairy obovate or ovate leaflets, each about 0.3 to 0.4-inch long.
Inflorescence: Large, cylindrical flower head spikes with a fuzzy, overall greenish-white appearance, 2 to 4.3 inches long and 0.5 to 1 inch across; fuzzy appearance from hairy, sharply-pointed bracts subtending each blossom; each spike with countless blossoms having white to pale-yellow corollas and white, protruding stamens.
Bloom Period: April to July.
