| Description |
Habitat: Often sandy soils in disturbed areas, roadsides and open fields. Plant: Upright to ascending annual 8 to 12 inches tall; one to several usually-unbranched stems. Leaves: Grayish-green bi-pinnately-divided leaves that may be further incised with ultimate leaflets that are ovate to oblong-elliptic or obovate; leaflet tips with small points. Inflorescence: Raceme extending above leaves with 6 to 20 bright yellow, tubular, curved flowers 3/8 to 1/2-inch long that are initially erect, becoming horizontal to drooping with age; each flower has 2 pairs of petals and a spur at the back formed by the upper outer petal that is less than half as long as the rest of the flower; inner petals are hidden; bracts are ovate to elliptic and up to 0.3-inch long. Blooming Period: February to April. Fruit: Erect, slender, straight or slightly in-curved capsules 0.4 to 1.4 inches long.
