Description Habitat: Dry soils in open areas, shrublands and waste areas.
Plant: Shrub up to 5 feet tall; slender stems that are roughly pubescent with stellate (star-like) hairs and no glandular hairs.
Leaves: Alternate, broadly orbicular-ovate with cordate bases and acuminate tips; 3/4 to 4 inches long and not as wide; on slender petioles shorter than the blade; edges are dentate-denticulate; upper surface is dark green and covered with stellate, pubescent hairs, lower has dense woolly hairs.
Inflorescence: Flowers either solitary on slender peduncles up to 2 inches long arising from leaf axils or in panicles or racemes; flowers about 1-inch across when open; petals are orange-yellow throughout, stamen column 3 to 4 mm long, style is 8 to 10-branched; calyx lobes up to 1/2-inch long, united at base and covered with stellate-pubescent hairs.
Bloom Period: September to December.
