Description Habitat: Sandy or gravelly soils in open areas and woodlands.
Plant: Erect perennial 20 inches to 5 ft. tall; few to several leafy rigid stems branched in flowering portion.
Leaves: Alternate, sessile narrowly ovate to elliptic stem leaves 1-1/2 to 2-3/4 inches long with rough surfaces; edges rough, entire or with a few small teeth.
Inflorescence: Many composite yellow flower heads in congested clusters along upper stems, each blossom about 1/2-inch across with 7 to 9 rays and 10 to 16 disk florets; involucres often sticky with glandular hairs.
Bloom Period: August to November.
