Description Habitat: Moist to wet soils in dunes, coastal areas, salt marshes, river and stream banks.
Plant: Erect perennial with stems growing above leaves that are often crowded near the base; up to 22 inches tall.
Leaves: Large, fleshy, thick spatulate to obovate blades 1 to 6 inches long, sessile or sheathing (winged petioles); tips are rounded to obtuse, sometimes apiculate.
Inflorescence: Clusters of tiny white to pink flowers in racemes at the stem tips; each flower about 1/4-inch across with a corolla with 5 roundish lobes; calyx below with 5 triangular lobes; pedicels up to 3/4-inch long.
Bloom Period: April to October.
