Description | Habitat: Dry, sandy soils in disturbed areas, pastures, prairies, woodland openings. Plant: Erect, stout, hairy annual 2 to 4 feet tall, upper portion branched. Leaves: Narrow to broadly lanceolate, alternate leaves 2 to 4 inches long and up to 1 inch wide. Inflorescence: Loose terminal clusters of flower heads about 1-3/8 inches across; 8 to 12 pale to dark rose-colored rays, deeply 3-lobed, and numerous darker rose-colored disk flowers.
