Description Habitat: Sandy soils in meadows, ditches, roadsides, other disturbed areas.
Plant: Perennial from 1 to 2-1/2 feet tall.
Leaves: Basal and stem leaves on lower 1/3 to 1/2 of the plant 2 to 4-1/2 inches long, lanceolate or oblanceolate on long petioles; upper leaves may be cut into deep lateral lanceolate lobes.
Inflorescence: Yellow composite flowers on long peduncles, each blossom 1-1/2 to to 2-1/2 inches across with wide, triangular rays with 4 lobes. Prominent yellow-orange disk with many florets. Distinct lance-shaped outer phyllaries surround greenish triangular inner phyllaries united in a cup shape below blossom.
Bloom Period: March to July.
