Description Habitat: Wet soils in bogs (including Pitcher Plant bogs), swamps, depressions.
Plant: Erect, slender perennial with stems branching (above the middle); from 12 to 28 inches tall.
Leaves: Lower leaves alternate, spatulate or oblanceolate sometimes with lateral lobes, 1-1/2 to 3+ inches long, and on petioles 3/8 to 1-5/8 inches long; upper leaves are opposite, linear and sessile.
Inflorescence: A few yellow composite flowers on long peduncles, each blossom about 2 inches across with 8 to 12 rays with 3 lobes; disk with many reddish-brown florets; 6 to 11 outer phyllaries that are irregularly spaced and ovate to lanceolate-deltoid.
Bloom Period: September and October, sometimes year-around.
