Description Habitat: Well-drained sandy soils in grasslands, fields, brushlands, open woodlands and roadsides.
Plant: Upright perennial 12 to 30 inches tall with multiple leafy, branching stems from base.
Leaves: Alternate stem leaves, ovate, elliptic, lanceolate, obovate, or oblanceolate up to 4 inches long and 1-1/4 inches wide; edges have small teeth (serrate or crenulate); prominent mid-vein.
Inflorescence: Spikes 1-1/4 to 3-1/2 inches long at stem tips with many small yellowish-green male (above) and female (below) flowers.
Bloom Period: March to June.
