Description Habitat: Moist or wet soils in sandy or disturbed sites, in fields, sand bars of streams, alluvial ground along sloughs and along roadsides.
Plant: Erect annual or perennial 3 to 9+ ft. tall with a few wide-spreading, smooth branches, becoming woody in maturity.
Leaves: Alternate, large compound leaves up to 1 ft. long with 30 to 70 narrowly oblong, leaflets, each 0.4 to 1.2 inches long and less than 0.1 to 0.25 inches wide.
Inflorescence: Two to six yellow pea-like flowers in short racemes, each 1/2 to 3/4-inch long; yellow petals may be mottled with purple or brown specks.
Bloom Period: August to October.
Fruit: Linear, smooth, two-sided pods up to 8 inches long with a beak 0.2 to 0.4 inches long at the tip; the pod is not winged.
