Description Habitat: Sandy or loamy soils; found in open, disturbed areas, roadsides, and (overgrazed) pastures and fields in generally the eastern two-thirds of Texas and southeastern states.
Plant: Upright annual 4 to 20 inches tall; stems are striated or ribbed with many branches in upper portion.
Leaves: Numerous alternate, very narrow, linear leaves 1-1/2 to 3 inches long. Lower leaves pinnately-lobed and withered by blooming time.
Inflorescence: Composite flower heads about 1+ inch across, yellow rays 3-toothed at tips, yellow 5-lobed disk flowers.
Bloom Period: July to October.
