Description | Habitat: Rocky limestone soils of outcrops, along roadsides and drywashes. Plant: Dense perennial growing in tufts; purple herbage; hairy stems and foliage; ascending and decumbent stems branching in lower half; overall up to 6 inches tall. Leaves: Opposite, ovate to elliptic, sharply pointed blades, coarsely dentate; up to 3/8-inch long. Inflorescence: Cymes arising from axils, congested in the upper portion of the stems with 3 to 5 blossoms; tubular lavender flowers with corolla tube up to about 2 inches long protruding from very hairy calyx; slightly hairy two-lipped corolla tube; calyx with 5 sharp-pointed lobes.
