Description | Habitat: Various soil types, usually in disturbed areas such as pastures, roadsides and waste areas and in prairies and open woodlands. Plant: Annual or short-lived perennial with single or multiple stems 2 to 5 ft. tall; stems with sparse, pubescent hairs. Leaves: Basal leaves are elliptical to broadly ovate or nearly round, up to 4 inches long and 2-3/4 inches across with coarsely toothed edges; numerous stem leaves become stalkless, more lanceolate and less toothed or toothless near the flower clusters. Inflorescence: Several to 50 small daisy-like flowers in an open branching cluster at the top of the plant; flowers are about 3/4-inch across, with 80 to 125 narrow white rays and yellow disk florets in the center; involucre with phyllaries with long, flattened hairs.
