Description Habitat: Sandy, gypsum limestone or alkaline soils, desert washes and flats.
Plant: Erect annual 12 to 32 inches tall; leafy, branched, smooth stems.
Leaves: Alternate, trifoliate; each group of leaflets on a petiole 0.3 to 0.8 inches long, blades are oblanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 0.6 to 1.2 inches long and 0.2 to 0.4 inches wide; tips are acute to rounded or emarginate; surfaces are smooth.
Inflorescence: Terminal, fairly dense racemes 4 to 20 inches long with numerous flowers; 4 yellow, oblong, reflexed petals 1/3 to 3/8-inch long; 6 protruding stamens; sepals are green, smooth and lanceolate, 0.4 to 1 inch long.
Bloom Period: May to September.
Fruit: Smooth, flat, rhombic-shaped capsule up to 0.3 inches long and up to 0.4 inches wide.
