Description Open areas, woodland edges, hillsides; much-branched, sprawling, somewhat woody perennial 1 to 2 feet tall with hairy stems; alternate, oblanceolate or ovate leaves 1/2 to 2 inches long, sessile or short-petiolate, with toothed or wavy edges; yellow-orange flowers about 3/4-inch across opening early morning and late afternoon, 5 pointed petals and many protruding stamens. Description Sunny areas, dry, gravelly limestone or calcareous soils; short sprawling perennial with one or a few brittle, whitish stems, woody near base; alternate, long-stalked leaves, hairy, sticky, lobed, 2 to 4 inches long; flowers about 2 inches across, many yellow stamens, about 10 yellow petals, opening late afternoon.
