Description Habitat: Heavy soils, open, grassy areas.
Plant: Upright, somewhat rough annual 4 to 20 inches tall, usually one leafy stem, may be branched. Variable appearance.
Leaves: Green or dark green leaves 1-1/8 to 3-1/8 inches long, or more; variable shapes, lanceolate, ovate or oblanceolate, may be crowded on stems; may have smooth edges or coarsely toothed.
Inflorescence: One or a few flowers at stem tips, each 3/4 to 1-1/8 inch across with 5 yellow ray petals notched at tips, yellow disk flowers.
