Description Habitat: Prairies, rocky hillsides, woodland edges; various soils.
Plant: Erect perennial 6 to 18 inches tall; one to several unbranched stems in a clump.
Leaves: Leaves near base 1 to 4 inches long, narrowly oblanceolate; further up the stem, leaves become linear and smaller, 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches long.
Inflorescence: Rounded composite flower heads 1 to 1-5/8 inches across with no ray flowers (petals) and white to cream-colored disk flowers united into tubular shapes.
