Description Habitat: Disturbed, sunny sites in dryer, rocky, gravelly, well-drained soils.
Plant: Erect perennial, single or tufted culms (stems) 12 to 40 inches tall, three-sided.
Leaves: Narrow, linear basal leaves 6 to 26 inches long.
Inflorescence: Spike with 3 to 12 globe-shaped blossoms 1/5 to 4/5-inch across, subtended by 4 to 7 long, narrow leaf-like bracts; blossoms with 60 to more than 100 spikelets radiating in all directions.
Bloom Period: June to September.
