Description Habitat: Sandy or clay soils in open areas, prairies and former pastures.
Plant: Erect annual, single leafy stem branched in upper portion, 1-1/2 to 5 feet tall.
Leaves: Basal leaves alternate, sessile, oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, up to 2-1/2 inches long; edges may have shallow teeth. Stem leaves smaller and ovate to lanceolate.
Inflorescence: Large composite flower head 1-1/2 to 3-1/8 inches across; many white to pink to purple disk florets (no ray flowers).
